Port of Venice

About Venice, Guide and Tourist Attractions
(Venice, Veneto, Italy)

Venice attracts many visitors all year round and was once Italy's most powerful city. It still remains one of Italy's most popular holiday destinations.

What to do in Venice

Venice is best explored by foot as strolling through the ancient squares and streets allow you to see and experience much more.

Venice has some well-established pubs, bars and restaurants, especially in St Mark's Square. The Basilica San Marco dominates St Mark's Square and is one of the world's most elaborately adorned churches. A trip along on of the many canals in a gondola is also recommended. This experience is unlike anything found anywhere else.

Tourist Attractions

St Mark's Square is located in the centre of the city and is home to several fascinating attractions. When Napoleon entered the square in 1797, he described it as one of the most beautiful places he had ever seen.

The nearby Doges' Palace and 15th century tower offer breathtaking views over the square and canals below.

Walking across the Bridge of Sighs to the damp dungeon on the other side is a popular tour. You will see the cells where the famous seducer Casanova was imprisoned. The Rialto and Accademia bridges are two other famous attractions that cross the grand canal, but perhaps the best of Venice is seen by simply wandering the canal side lanes or taking a gondola ride.

Trips to the nearby islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello as well as the beach fronted Lido are also good ways to escape the tourist.
