Ferries and Ferry Companies Operating
(Venice, Veneto, Italy)




Three ferry companies serve the port of Venice and offer routes to destinations in Greece, Croatia and Slovenia.

The principal ferry operators serving the Greek routes are Minoan Lines and Anek Lines, while the sailings to destinations in Croatia and Slovenia are mainly operated by Venezia Lines.


Minoan Lines Ferry Company


Minoan Lines is a leading Greek ferry operator. During the last 30 years the company has been developing fast. Currently they own a fleet of eight ultra-modern vessels. The company offers the Venice-Patras-Venice route almost every day during high season and four times weekly during low season. To reach Patras from Venice takes about 29 hours, 30 minutes.

The Ariadne Palace and the Ikarus Palace are the two vessels serving the Venice-Patras-Venice route.

The Ariadne Palace was built in 2001 and can accommodate 1,000 passengers and has a capacity for 500 cars. The ship can reach a speed of 31.5 knots. Onboard facilities include a play area for children, lounges and bars, a currency exchange service, pet hospitality, shopping facilities, satellite telephone and fax, slot machines, swimming pool, a la carte and self service restaurant, television and an Internet corner.

The Ikarus Palace can hold 1,500 passengers and has room for 850 cars. The ship was built in 1998 and reaches a maximum speed of 27 knots. Facilities are similar to those onboard the Ariadne Palace.

The vessels provide specially modified cabins and elevators for disabled passengers. All the public areas are wheelchair friendly.

Anek Lines Ferry Company


Anek Lines was founded in 1967 and has since been become one of Greece's principal ferry operators with a fleet of 39 vessels. From the port of Venice, the company offers five services per week to Patras in Greece. Duration of the journey is about 36 hours.

The Sophokles V, the Lefka Ori and the Kriti II sail this route.

The Sophokles V was built in 1990 and completely refurbished in 1999. The vessel can carry 1,500 passengers and has a capacity for 1,100 vehicles. Onboard facilities include a restaurant, bar and café, disco, slot machines, casino, telex, 'no smoking' areas, swimming pool, air conditioning, video games room and a tax-free shop.

The Lefka Ori was built in 1992 and completely retrofitted in 2000. Technical characteristics and onboard facilities are similar to those of the Sophokles V.

The Kriti II was built in 1997 and can accommodate 1,600 passengers and has room for 1,200 cars. Onboard facilities are similar to those of the previous mentioned vessels. All ships offer cabins for passengers with special needs.

Venezia Lines Ferry Company


Venezia Lines is a hi-speed ferry operator connecting Italy with Croatia. It is a new company operating a fleet of three hi-speed catamarans.

The San Frangisk and the San Pawl provide a quick, safe and comfortable journey to Croatia. Both can accommodate up to 320 people and reach speeds of up to 50 knots.

The San Gwan is the other vessel used. It can accommodate 427 passengers and has room for 20 cars. It reaches a maximum speed of 43 knots. Onboard facilities include spacious bars, two air conditioned lounges and tax-free shopping facilities.

The company offers sailings between Venice and Piran, Porec, Rovinj, Rabac, Pula and Opatija.
